KNOWING OF GOD IS NOT KNOWING HIM
I would like to share with you about how God has changed my life. I am a living testimony of what God can do with anyone.
It all began at the tender age of eleven when I was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church. I knew of God, but never had a personal relationship with Him, and because not having that relationship with Hod, I made foolish mistakes. Mistakes that I myself have lived to regret. I lived a Christless life, not obeying God nor wanting to find Him.
Not being married, I had two children. My biggest accomplishment was providing for my kids...all the time the Lord was speaking to my heart wanting me to let Him in. But I continued to shut Him out. When we don't know God in the good times it's hard to know Him in the bad times.
October 29th,1997, my whole life changed. My son, Brent Watson, was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. My life turned upside down. Not knowing God made it difficult.
I couldn't believe a God of love could allow this to happen. My God allows anything to come our way just for us to be saved. He has the power to intervene, but He also gives strength in times of weakness.
Brent was flown into Silver Spring, Maryland, for a second opinion and therapy. Fear took control of me not wanting to face the unknown; I wanted the plane to crash. But God, through His love, saved me too so I would be able to share His love wherever I go.
Brent was very positive and always gave me the assurance that everything was going to be o.k. He always said he'd get a new liver either here or in Heaven. He really believed that and he gave me such support during such a time when I should have been the stronger one.
Chemotherapy was one of his treatments, and he had many side affects like losing his hair, fingernails becoming dark, mouth sores and decreased appetite.
After every cycle of therapy, Brent had to have MRI's to make sure that the chemo was working. I kept looking at his problems and not looking at the great problem solver, which is Jesus Christ.
Brent went through two surgeries; one was seven hours and the other was eleven hours. My God had proven Himself to be faithful; He gave me the strength to cope with what was going on. The doctors said that they believed that they got all of the cancer, but it didn't matter to Brent, he always said 'He'd get a new liver.'
Unfortunately, Brent went into liver failure and he was placed on the transplant list for a new LIVER. On October 25th, 1998, Brent passed away at the tender age of eleven. His death crushed my heart into a million pieces. I was in denial, I couldn't believe that this could happen to me, but the question that taunted me was why not you? You're no different from any other parent.
I began to draw further and further from God; I became angry with the world. Until one day, when I was at my lowest, God touched my heart in a very special way. He showed me love which I have never known. He filled my heart, until it now overflows. Even though it was heartbreaking, when Brent died is when I began to live - live a life for the Lord.
It brings me such joy to share my testimony with the world about the love of God, because He uses pain to bring praise. He did it for me, and I know He can do for you. God can soothe the broken heart; He can fill that empty void. He put the broken pieces back together again and gave me joy which the world doesn't understand. My disappointments became JOY. With God's love, He can do the same for you, a changed heart, new joy, peace, a brighter tomorrow and faith in God.
My prayer is that everyone that reads this will see Jesus in a loving way. God Bless each and every one of you!
